You can easily iterate across records from PL/pgSQL by using hstore, e.g:
SELECT (avals(hstore(ROW(83,6,4))))[3];
dmitigr=> SELECT (avals(hstore(ROW(83,6,4))))[3] AS thirdfield;
 thirdfield
------------
 4
(1 row)
