Kind of like comparing apples to oranges. Anyway, I digress...
PocketLinux is basically a distribution. It's entirely based on Java and
XML. At one point the Helio was a supported target platform for PocketLinux,
however it is no longer a supported platfrom for current versions from what
chatter I hear from their list. It's not really surprising, because
PocketLinux is large, and the Helio doesn't have a ton of space to put
things. (Not to mention Pocketlinux is a bit sluggish on the iPaq, and lets
face it..., Helio vs. iPaq, the sleek little iPaq will squash it like a bug
in terms of memory, faster clock, more storage, and a better instruction set
architecture)
Pgui is a windowing architecture basically. It can replace the Kaffe
componetent of Pocketlinux (Well, that's not totally true, with the libgcj
stuff I've worked on it *could* replace the Kaffe portion, or even Waba). To
date (AFAIK) no ones made a complete distro for a handheld based around Pgui.
Lets put it in more common terms..., you're asking for a comparison between
"RedHat and X Windows", it's the wrong question. Pgui is just a component
that could be used to make a really cool handheld distribution. (<advocacy
hat> And Should be!</advocacy hat>)
Pgui is *not* related to the linux-vr kernel. It does happen to have a input
module for the touchpanel that the Helio uses. (And I think Sean from the
Agenda list is working on getting the touchpanel for the Agenda working with
it so he can mess around with Waba) Pgui happens to run on the linux-vr
kernel..., but so does pretty much any application that runs on linux-x86.
(So long as it's not written in assembler)
Thanks,
Shane Nay.
