Yes. There seem to be many file selector designs around. I was thinking of using 
something similar to the MacOS file selector. Pardon the ASCII art:

Clicking the directory name will bring up a popup menu of other directories to choose. 
The '..' button (which will also have a sort of up-arrow icon) goes up one level.  A 
small icon to the left of each file differentiates between files and directories. The 
area to the left of the Ok button is a regular text entry field. I'll find somewhere 
to stick a Cancel button.
