It seems that one of the big issues to be decided is the file format. Both the Gnome
and KDE PIM applications (and several others) save in the vCalendar format. It seems
like if we used that, there wouldn't be much work at all involved with desktop
synchronization.
I found a copy of the vCalendar spec:

The format seems awfully ugly though. It might be best to use an XML-based format, or
even a custom binary format on the handheld and provide import/export programs for
other formats, like vCalendar.
