Hi folks

I'm asking these questions here because I know some of the membership has
worked on/is working on the Helio.

I used Brad LaRonde's "Building a Modern MIPS Cross-Toolchain for Linux" doc
to create a mipsel-linux version of gcc. Its a great reference for making a
cross compiler. (Yes, that's a baldfaced plug)

I compiled a few c programs, all of which display stuff to stdout or stderr.
With the libraries from the pgui Helio distro as a base, I flashed the
executables over and tried to run them from the prompt in minicom. There
was no output to stdout/stderr and the exe that was supposed to dump core
did nothing.

Can anyone tell me where stdout/stderr is on the Helio? How can I display
stuff to the minicom prompt or the Helio screen? What else may be wrong?
I'm approaching my wits end over this.

I've also got a version of kaffe installed on the Helio. It comes from the
kaffe ftp site and says its compiled for mipsel. The kaffe executable will
print a usage message when invoked without a class file. When a class file
is specified, kaffe says it "Couldn't find or load essential class
'java/lang/Object' java.lang.NoClassDefFound"
Its in a jar file that works fine on other platforms. Any guesses as to
what could cause this? Could it be related to an incorrect version of zlib?

Speaking of libraries - since I'm using a cross compiler, I've got mipsel
libraries on a build machine (i586). Do I need to install those libraries
on the Helio along with the compiled programs.

I'd really appreciate any answers I can get. Please respond privately if
you don't want to take up space in the mailing list.

Thanks

Mark
