Hi,

I have put a new picolinux-helio.bin flash rom file at
http://mainland.essentialgoods.com/matt/vtech/linux/rom-build/new-kernel/picolinux-helio.bin

This image contains:

  - 2.3.99 kernel (with working serial defaulting to 56700 baud)
  - A login terminal running on the serial port - you can use sz/rz to
upload and download files to your helio.
  - A fairly recent snapshot of picogui with scribble, pterm, on screen
qwerty keyboard, blackout and the new tpcal.
  - A very recent blackbox using the mush shell (command line retrival,
tab completion). It should be possible to add vi into blackbox but I
      haven't tried it recently.
  - tinyscheme. Tinyscheme isn't hooked up to picogui (yet). I'm looking
at somehow integrating either chicken, rscheme, tinyscheme or qscheme
to picogui. There are pro's and con's for each and I'm still trying
simply to get them to compile for the helio in some cases.

The build environment I have put together can be found in several tar files
at:
http://mainland.essentialgoods.com/matt/vtech/linux/rom-build/new-kernel/picolinux-tarred.

I would particularly appreciate if someone would volunteer to add my changes
back in to the picolinux dist-helio-2 and linux-helio CVS repositories.

Special thanks to Xentac and Scanline and all the other fine folks on
#picogui who helped me with this. My apologies for not mentioning everyone
individually!

Whats next?

I am planning on putting together a primitive PIM next. Others are working on
"real" PIM software. I have what I need for playing with my robot stuff. When
I get a robot working I'll put some pictures on my site for anyone who is
interested.

Thanks to all who have contributed to the picolinux effort!!

Matt (kiatoa)
