What I'd like to have/do would be=20 -more abstraction of the OS -rewrite the API
Currently there is no open source widget toolkit available for deeply = embedded systems, i.e. which are not running linux (but e.g. ecos, = ecos.sourceware.org).=20
The only one which seems like it could play this role is IMO picoGUI, = but it needs quite some work.
I also think that good abstraction from the OS and focus on non-Linux embedded targets would have made PicoGUI a bigger success. To me things looked like this:
1. The PicoGUI core developers had not enough motivation to deal with non-Linux embedded targets. So fishing for PicoGUI developers only took place in the Linux sea.
2. Developers for non-Linux embedded targets would have loved PicoGUI (they have no nice alternatives) but they could not handle the initial effort needed for OS abstraction. So they didn't become PicoGUI developers.
A chicken and egg problem.
In the area of networking, the lwIP project showed that good OS abstraction and independence from specific tools can avoid this sort of problem. It has constantly been improved for years and the diversity of target OSs (even support for non-OS embedded) has helped to make it more robust.

It depends on how deeply you mean. What about the toolkit of the contiki os? Look at:

SICS...Adam... seems like the same origin as lwIP. But this one looks a bit too simple for my taste :-)
All the best Peter
