This has to do with the Socket API at the VM level behaving slightly different, which impacts the open/close, connected/disconnected state of socket streams. There is also an API issue at the Pharo level: there is no clear differences between socket stream read or write channels with respect to being in either state (i.e. #atEnd is only for reading).
