IIUC we are planning on making Pharo Launcher the default download.
Not sure whether this is the right thread or not...
Keep in mind that the last time I tried to use the Pharo Launcher (a
couple of months ago) on ubunutu12.04 the Ubuntu packaged failed to be
found and I had to abandon my use of Pharo Launcher since Ubuntu12.04 is
still in common use ... my desktop at work, travis-ci (the big problem
for me) and elsewhere ... currently the downloads (outside of those that
depend upon the Ubuntu package) work just fine on ubuntu12.04 (and of
course Pharo runs just fine on ubuntu12.04), but if the "default
download" starts using the Pharo Launcher then those of working on
ubuntu12.04 will be forced to find alternate solutions to downloading
Pharo ...
If "default download" is scoped to the be only the newer versions of
Pharo, like 4.0 or 5.0, then it would be fair to exclude Ubuntu12.04
from the very convenient download scripts ... otherwise I'd like to know
right now so I can take defensive actions...like rewriting all of my
download scripts to use a safe mechanism based on ftp:)
I'm going to have to touch those scripts anyway, because the vmLatest
url just stopped working one day last week, but I'd really not like to
have to rewrite my pharo download scripts every 2 months:), so if there
are plans to summarily drop download support for Ubuntu12.04 in the near
future, then I'd rather know about that before I touch my scripts:)
