Yes I chose to use a ghost text inside the input boxes instead of labels. I 
thought labels would take too much space..

Sure, the login button could turn into a logout button after logging in :P.
Or it can be an option when you click on your username in the top right.. I 
think that is better actually.

Yes I was thinking about the same.
What I would like most is a spinner of some sort, however I don’t know if any 
of this is supported by Pharo’s UI framework

A progress/status pane at the bottom is not a bad idea at all!
