If you want it to be interactive, there's no choice but to use javascript… well at least until WebAssembly comes out. What I've noticed when STHub got stuck like this for me (it happened many times in the past), is that one of the loaded resources 404ed, so the load never finished. After I've cleaned the cache it worked fine again. So I think this was a server problem (Zinc?) that didn't properly return files.
