For the curious, somewhere along the way the Sophie team decided to go with Quicktime as the primary media source because Apple bundles it with iTunes, and given the iPod/iPhone monopoly why finding Quicktime on a Windows machine now is fully expected. However you must choose your codec carefully some videos formats we would find would be there on Windows, but not there on Macintosh. Also if you use OGG that is not a default Quicktime codec, for that reason we bundled the OGG squeak players with Sophie so that we could fall back to them (part of the Sophie Movie logic)
if OGG Quicktime was not installed.

Now since nobody cared for a long time on Movies I do not know the status
of such a code.

The "native" Squeak movie code is very outdated and supports only a very peculiar mpg.1 video format. So for the future GStreamer and Quicktime support would be more advantageous. Quicktime is well integrated into Sophie, but could use some refactoring to bring it into line with the GStreamer work John did.
