There are quite a few unresolved bugs in the regexp engine, but this is definitely not one of them. The problem is that this is not a valid regular expression. See the wikipedia article for a general description (<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regular_expression>) or the documentation on the class side of RxParser for a specific description of the Smalltalk implementation. Your code looks more like a String>>#match: pattern.
