I agree. Network settings are now defined in the OS and need to be set again in the Image. When I suggested moving the network settings to the VM I was thinking along the lines of how web browsers manage their connection to the Internet. Web browsers seem to either link directly to the OS network settings (IE and Chrome) or extract the settings from the OS (Firefox and Opera).
