For me 0.9.8 of the library works. There is just mismatch in the library name
SSL is linked and what you get installed in a fresh ubuntu. If you look here

# ls -l /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libssl*
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 240624 Aug 16 17:54 /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libssl3.so
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root     35 Apr 24  2012
/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libssl.so.0.9.8 -> /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libssl.so.0.9.8

we have a libssl.so.0.9.8. But the plugin is linked to a library libssl.so.6.
To fix this execute

# ln -s /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libssl.so.0.9.8
/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libssl.so.6

Maybe you need to invoke ldconfig afterwards.
