No, it does require changing the Smalltalk side, I call it a workaround because 
really supporting HTTPS out of the box would be much better.

However, I must say that I did not get it to work on Mac OS X (almost ;-), then 
I switched to a my virtual Ubuntu GNU/Linux and it worked.
