Dear all, This Monday (Mar 12th) the Women in Philosophy group is delighted to present a talk by Jenny Saul on "Implicit Bias, Stereotype Threat and Women in Philosophy". Prof. Saul is the co-author of the recent BPA/SWIP report on the under-representation of women in philosophy, the director of an interdisciplinary Leverhulme-funded project on implicit bias, and she recently received the APA 'Distinguished Woman Philosopher of the Year Award'. As originally advertised, this talk will begin at 12:30 and run for one hour: 30 mins presentation, 30 mins discussion. However, there is a new venue (see below).
After the talk we will ALSO have a lunch seminar on the issues surrounding women in philosophy, with a special focus on undergraduate teaching practises. This brainstorming session seeks to bring together as many ideas and perspectives as possible: male and female undergrads, post-grads, and Faculty members will be present. In particular, we will hear remarks from Prof. Rae Langton, Prof. Richard Holton and Prof. Jenny Saul. The MPhil Student Representative Katherine Jenkins will present the results of a recent report concerning the participiation of female undergraduates. These issues affect everyone - men and women alike - and we hope to see as many people present as possible; please bring your lunches along. Prior to this seminar, you may wish to read the recent BPA/SWIP report, and related draft papers from Jenny Saul and Helen Beebee: http://www.bpa.ac.uk/resources/women/ Both of these events will take place in the Barbara White Room, Newnham College. The program will run as follows: 12:30 - Jenny Saul "Implicit Bias, Stereotype Threat and Women in Philosophy" 1:30 - Short break (to buy sandwiches, etc) 1:45 - 3:00 Lunch seminar on Teaching Practises Feel free to come to the talk or the seminar, if you can't make both. Best, Emily Thomas, Emily McTernan & Claire Benn _____________________________________________________ Sent by the CamPhilEvents mailing list.
