Dear all,

A reminder that on Monday 5th November at 11am, Women in Philosophy will
host Professor Susan James (Birkbeck) speaking on "Mary Wollstonecraft and
Women's Rights". The talk will run for an hour (30 mins for presentation,
and 30 mins for questions) and we'll go for an informal lunch afterwards.
The talk will be held in Newnham College, Barbara White Room.

Here is the abstract:

"An obvious way to protect women against inequality and exploitation
is, it seems, to make sure that they have appropriate rights. But as
we know from experience, this strategy isn't as straightforward as it
at first appears. What would rights have to be like in order to
fulfil this role? I'll argue that they would need to be realisable
claims, and will trace this view in the writings of Mary
Wollstonecraft."

The full termcard can be found below. Everybody from any department/gender
is welcome.

Best, Emily Thomas
