Call for papers 2014 Joint Session of the Aristotelian Society & the Mind Association University of Cambridge 11-13 July 2014 About The Joint Session is a three-day conference in philosophy that is co-organised every year by the Aristotelian Society and the Mind Association. Since 1910, the Joint Session has grown to become the largest gathering of philosophers in the United Kingdom, attracting prestigious UK and international speakers working in a broad range of philosophical areas. Inaugurated by the incoming President of the Mind Association, the Joint Session includes symposia, open and postgraduate sessions, and a range of satellite conferences. The 88th Joint Session will be held at the University of Cambridge on the weekend of 11 - 13 July 2014. The local organiser is Dr. Tim Button. The Session will be held at Fitzwilliam College. There are a large number of places available, allowing room for an extensive and diverse programme of talks. There are no restrictions on the areas of philosophy which papers may address. The intention is to accommodate all philosophical material (so far as time and space in the programme allow) that is suitable for presentation. Each Open Session talk lasts up to 20 minutes and is followed by an additional 10 minutes for discussion. Guidelines Submissions should be no more than 2000 words, including footnotes and bibliography, and should begin with a 100 word abstract. Submissions should be prepared for blind review. Submissions should be typewritten in a standard 12 pt font and single-spaced throughout (including references and quotations). All pages should be numbered and have margins of one inch or more. Submissions should be submitted in PDF. Papers accepted for the Open Sessions will not be considered for publication in the Proceedings of the Aristotelian Society and expenses will not be paid. Only one paper per individual may be submitted. Submissions must be for either the Open or the Postgraduate Sessions - not both. Rejected submissions for the Postgraduate Session could be recommended for the Open Session. All conference delegates must be members of either the Aristotelian Society or the Mind Association. All submissions are blind reviewed and a maximum of eight are selected for presentation. Only current postgraduate students (including those who have obtained a postgraduate degree within the past year) may submit for the Postgraduate Session. Each talk for the Postgraduate Session lasts up to 20 minutes and is followed by an additional 10 minutes for discussion. Guidelines Submissions should be no more than 2500 words, including footnotes and bibliography, and should begin with a 100-250 word abstract. Submissions should be prepared for blind review. They should be accompanied by a separate document containing the name of the author, title of the paper, institution and status, and email and mailing addresses. Submissions should not include any self-identifying references in the body or footnotes of the text. Submissions should be typewritten in a standard 12 pt font and single-spaced throughout (including references and quotations). All pages should be numbered and have margins of one inch or more. Submissions should be formatted in Word, RTF, or PDF. Papers containing symbols liable to distortion should be submitted in PDF.
