Dear all,
The next meeting of the Serious Metaphysics Group will be on Wednesday 12th Feb, 11am-12.30pm in the philosophy board room. Our speaker this week is Prof Rae Langton who will be giving a talk entitled _Moral Realism and the Plasticity of Mind_ (abstract below). I hope to see many of you there. Best wishes, Matthew Simpson Rae Langton - _Moral Realism and the Plasticity of Mind_ "Racists and radiologists, bigots and botanists, see the world differently. Is that literally true? And would this projective perception conflict with realism? Suppose perception is 'theory-laden', shaped, penetrated and structured by antecedent cognitive, conative or affective states of the perceiver (Siegel _et al_). Some say that would be at odds with realism (Kant), including scientific realism (Kuhn), and moral realism (Hume). But it's not at odds with scientific realism (Churchland). Nor with moral realism either--not even moral realism of a queer Platonic kind. Indeed, it might even help." -- Matthew Simpson PhD Student in Philosophy University of Cambridge Mail: Robinson College, Cambridge, CB3 9AN
