Dear all,

This week at the SMG we have Paulina Sliwa giving a talk entitled "Moral
Ignorance, Responsibility, and Blame" (abstract below). We'll be meeting
at 11am on Wednesday 5th in the Faculty board room.

Best wishes,

Paulina Sliwa - _Moral Ignorance, Responsibility, and Blame_

Abstract: Can moral ignorance exculpate? According to a popular approach
to blame, an agent is blameworthy when she fails to be responsive to
moral reasons. Moral ignorance generally is the result of failure to
respond to moral reasons. Consequently, moral ignorance not only fails
to exculpate; it's something that agents can be blameworthy for. My aim
will be to argue that this is mistaken. Drawing on parallels to
epistemology, I argue that we need to distinguish two kinds of
assessment: assessments of responsibility and blameworthiness on the one
hand and assessments of whether an agent is morally flawed on the other.
