A reminder for this event – I understand that it will start just a few
minutes late, for the benefit of those who also want to attend Rae
Langton's Festival of Ideas talk on the Sidgwick Site at 5:30.

There's an excellent recent interview with Rebecca Goldstein here:

Subject: What Would Plato Say? Rebecca Goldstein
Date: 2014-10-13 18:27
From: Trinity Philosophy Society <[email protected]>

For our first event, the Trinity Philosophy Society is delighted to
host the hugely impressive Rebecca Goldstein at Trinity as she talks
about her ideas from her new book: "Plato at the Googleplex: Why
Philosophy Won't Go Away".

Is philosophy obsolete? We'll be exploring what the ancient
philosophers could have taught us about our current problems. What
would they say about the NSA scandal? How would Plato react to Google
and the idea that knowledge is equally accessible to everyone? These
and other questions will hopefully give us a new insight into how we
can approach today's issues and how ancient philosophy still holds
relevance to our lives.

The book has received glowing reviews including the Wall Street
Journal, the Washington Post, Hilary Putnam, A.C. Grayling and even
Stephen Fry.

Rebecca is a renowned writer and professor, publishing both academic
works (including books on Godel and Spinoza) as well as novels (36
Arguments for the Existence of God: A work of Fiction). She is also
the recipient of a daunting amount of awards, including book prizes,
fellowships and even the Macarthur Prize (often called the "Genius
Award").

The talk will be on Wednesday the 22nd, at 18:30 in the Winstanley
Lecture Theatre, Trinity College. If you have any questions e-mail
Keith at [email protected]

Afterwards we'll be having a drink and snacks reception with a chance
for a more informal chat, hope to see you all there!
