Last year, at this time, I wrote to everyone in the philosophy events list to
tell them about the seminars I was about to give on Philosophy in the Long
Middle Ages – a new paper for which there were, at the time, no undergraduate
takers. I suggested that they might be of interest to graduates and other
members of the Faculty, and a good number of such people came along and we had
some very interesting discussions. This year a number of undergraduates have
chosen to do the paper, but the seminars remain open to all who are interested
– and, in my experience, a mixture of different backgrounds and levels adds to
the value of such groups for everyone. The seminars will take place in the
Faculty Board Room, from 2.00 – 3.30 on Thursdays (starting 15 January) – on
‘Scientific Truth and Revelation’ – and Tuesdays (starting 20 January) on
‘Universals’. The Reading List
(file:///C:/Users/jm258/Downloads/Part%20II%20Paper%2005%202014-15%20(4).pdf)
will give you an idea of the subjects we shall treat. Do come if you’re
interested, even if you won’t be able to attend consistently.
