Dear all

This term, together with Yang Liu (newly arrived from Columbia as a postdoc
in CSER), I'll be running a graduate seminar on Decision Theory. We'll meet
Thursdays 11–12:30, in the Philosophy Common Room in the Faculty.

We aim to cover some classic material and recent controversies, and to try
to get far enough to see why issues in the philosophy of decision theory
seem to relevant to the theoretical challenges of friendly AI.

There's a list of possible topics with suggested readings here –
https://www.dropbox.com/s/nsy1nmzil66civm/DecisionTheoryTopicsMT2015.pdf?dl=0
– though we don't need to stick rigidly to this, and certainly don't expect
that people attending will read everything listed.

For the first meeting, this Thursday (8 October), could those planning to
attend please read the highly accessible introduction of Arif Ahmed's
recent book, *Evidence, Decision and Causality* (CUP 2014)? The eBook
version is available here:
http://ezproxy.lib.cam.ac.uk:2048/login?url=http://dx.doi.org/10.1017/CBO9781139107990
(Raven login required).

Please let me know if you have queries.

Huw.
