Dear all, The Moral Sciences Club's next meeting will be held on Tuesday 11th October. We are delighted to welcome Professor David Papineau (King's College London/CUNY), who will be giving a talk entitled "The Metaphysics of Sensory Experience". Here is the abstract:
"The standard accounts of sensory experience are direct realism, representationalism, and sense-datum theory. These all take sense experience to involve mental relations between subjects and other entities, and they all face insuperable difficulties—or so I shall argue. In their place I shall offer an account of sense-experience as radically non-relational." The meeting will be held at 2:30 until 4:15, in the Barbara White Room at Newnham College, and will be followed by tea and coffee. For those who have not yet paid, there is a yearly membership fee of £7.50 for students and £15 for others, or a one-off fee of £3 (£2 for students).
