ABSTRACT

A common accusation against Naive Realism (NR) is that it fails to
account for cases of psychophysical phenomenal variation, in which
subjects have phenomenally distinct experiences because they are in
distinct psychophysical states. In response, I develop a version of NR
that assigns perceptual standpoints a new "foundational" role, and that
has some similarities with the qualia view. In virtue of these features,
my version of NR both accommodates the problem cases, and respects the
fact that perception is simultaneously external (i.e., presents us with
reality) and internal (i.e., intra-dermally phenomenally modulated). I
argue that alternative versions of NR fail to have these advantages.
