Dear all,

The final meeting of the Moral Sciences Club for this year will be held on
Tuesday the 23rd of October. We are delighted to welcome Professor Laurie
Paul (UNC Chapel Hill), who will be giving a talk entitled 'De Se Truth and
Epistemic Revolution'. Here is the abstract:

I develop an account of de se truth and argue that immersive experience can
be necessary to grasp certain distinctive de se truths. Using the case of a
blind person who becomes sighted, I develop the way that immersive
experience can be required for the discovery of new, previously
inaccessible de se truths, and embed it in my recent work on transformative
experience and change. I then frame these sorts of radical de se shifts as
personal epistemic revolutions: they are cases where a person undergoes a
Kuhnian revolution writ small.

The meeting will be preceded by our annual club photograph. (Past photos
can be seen on the walls of the Philosophy Library, stretching back from
last year to the days of Russell, Moore and Wittgenstein.) The photograph
will be taken on the lawn in Newnham: if you make your way from the lodge
to the Barbara White Room as usual, you can't miss us. Please arrive at
1:50.

We will also be holding our Annual General Meeting. We'll appoint
secretaries for next year, and there is also a motion to abolish membership
fees. The AGM starts at 2:20 in the Barbara White Room. Following that, the
meeting will be held at 2:30 until 4:15, and will be followed, as always,
by tea and coffee.

For those who have not yet paid, there is a yearly membership fee of £7.50
for students and £15 for others, or a one-off fee of £3 (£2 for students).
These can be purchased online at: http://onlinesales.admin.
