Dear resisters of reality,

Don't we all "have an interest in carving logical space in order to coordinate
with each other, to draw distinctions that serve our purposes as social beings
and to realize our values"? And haven't we all wondered how best to go about
this carving of logical space? "How best to do this changes as we develop new
technologies and as we come to appreciate new and different values." And this
is where we would sure like some sensible strategies for reworking our
concepts. Luckily for us, in the next session of the Meaning Reading Group,
we'll be joined by the inimitable Sally Haslanger to discuss her recent work on
epistemic and semantic amelioration.

We will be discussing a paper called "Going On, Not in the Same Way". But if
you're craving for more ameliorative analysis after reading that paper, you're
very welcome to have a look at the forthcoming "How Not to Change the Subject",
which expands on the distinction between 'ameliorating' and 'replacing'
concepts. You'll find both these papers (as well as a handy handout covering
the first one) here:

Please join us on Wednesday, July 15th, from 4.00 to 5.30pm UK time, for the
discussion.
