Good afternoon,

The final Mental Sciences Club of the term will be held this Thursday,
4:00-5:30pm using zoom link
https://zoom.us/j/97991710019?pwd=QnU0Y2FERktqb0dWMWdqNzMvUjdpQT09

This week's speaker is Katharina Zuhlsdorff (Cambridge Neuroscience) who will
be leading a discussion on theme of "Sexual dimorphism in preclinical research
and its implications". Abstract below:

Preclinical research in rodents is highly important for understanding the
neurochemical basis of psychiatric disorders and has helped in the development
of treatments for them. What can be observed from reviewing the literature is
that most studies in the past have only used male subjects, but it is becoming
more evident now that there are clear differences in the cognitive mechanisms
between the sexes. We will be discussing the implications of this, especially
in the translation of findings from rodents to humans, and future directions.
We may also briefly discuss the role of computational modelling in aiding our
understanding.

All the best,
Tom and Jessie
