The licensing/patent issues that prevent us from shipping MP3 support

But we're not preventing anybody from installing MP3 plugins. Just

that we don't like it or want to prevent people from installing it.

I was thinking on a broader basis with this issue. If I had a problem that was not related to installing third party software. Such as a problem burning CDs. I was thinking that any third party software might break the terms of the agreement.

I use ogg format to record all of my digital music. I do want the ability to play mp3s, since there are so many people that share music in this format.

When people pay for a product though. They expect the most usability possible. Third party support, within certain limits, seems to go with dishing out cash for services.

I'm glad that xmms picked up the ball for mp3 support, for the feature that was left off, due to licensing issues.

I think that you'll probably get a lot of people that are a little testy, if they are not at least pointed to a solution, either through directing them to the right source. Or at least not leaving them hanging. Answering a paid subscriber that way wouldn't add to continued subscription renewals.

Thanks for your answer. I know staying away from possible copyright violations is a tough thing to avoid.
