I've got phoebe running on 3 boxes now and maybe a 4th if I can swing it -
One is a workstation I was able to bring in as a cost effective display for a remote solaris app - of which I am the chief user.
The workstation is now on XFree-4.3.0 and looking good, it's also running rpm 4.2.0-71 which hasn't yet given me any grief (as in RH 8.0's "rpm of death")
The other 2 are server room boxes so I don't have a lot of up close interaction with the desktop but they seem solid - I'm happy to report that openvpn does compile and run fine on phoebe 3 -
For the past couple of days I have been trying to get into rawhide for kernel updates, without success - I've never had that much trouble getting into rawhide before - hopefully we'll see 8.1 soon so it will be a moot point -
PS I'm going to cut down on opinion pieces since my ideas seem to enrage certain types of folk here -
In the interest of keeping the list just a bit more on-topic, I'd like to request that long winded rants be directed to email off-list - Jef this means you.
Best Regards,
Joe
The new release will have a spellchecker like feature to insure all programs are supported versions befor you run bugzilla. It is modeled after ximian's verify system packages, but does not recognize third party programs. The first thing that it does is do a third party rpm scan, then wipes out the non-supported versions. Then it runs the redhat-config-packages program to install all original programs and prompts you for the installation discs. Then mozilla opens up and asks you for an account number for the bugzilla area of the domain.
After answering a slew of prompted questions, it does a duplicate complaints check. If that passes muster. Your bug is then submitted.
Otherwise, your bug will be dowsed and the time that you waisted was real for you but only automated for the Red Hat personnel. Rumor has it that the release will be called conformity.
In seriousness though, it is great that you made the product work for your particular needs. I hope that the release is a very worthy and advancing model. Great job on your part.
Jim
