Jack, this must not be just a compiling perl modules problem, because I have compiled several (think 10 or so) different perl modules without a problem under Phoebe. I think it may be related directlry to compiling the perl TK module, unless you have other examples of the same failure.

I bounced back to RH 8.0 cuz I could not get perl modules to compile
on Phoebe. If anybody with the X libs loaded wants to see if this is
still a problem, would they mind trying to compile Tk?
# perl -MCPAN -e 'install Tk'
You have to be root for the Tk graphic tests to complete.
The symptoms include broken makefiles. Perhaps it is somehow unicode
related but I feel it is more in the gcc toolchain somewhere. Just
wondered if this has been addressed in the latest Phoebe builds.
