I recently upgraded from RHL 8.0 to Phoebe-3 (8.0.94). Everything works
fine if I log in as root, but if I log in as any non-root user, several
GNOME programs crash on me. At first, I thought it was just a matter of
old .gnome2 files and other incompatible config files hanging around.
But after creating and signing in to a brand-new user account, the
crashes still occur.

The crashes are consistent and reproducible. For instance, any launch of
gnome-panel, whether automatically after log in or by typing the command
"gnome-panel" into the terminal, causes a signal 11 crash. Likewise, launching gnome-terminal causes a signal 6. Strangely, gedit will launch okay but then crash with signal 11 if I attempt to open a file. I can post the backtraces to these crashes if anyone's interested, but of course they have no debug symbols.

Has anyone experienced these problems? I'd appreciate any workarounds for them. I just can't understand why everything works perfectly for the root user but not for anyone else. Thanks,

Trevor
