My scanner is an USB scanner. I run it through a 4 port hub. When I
launched the scanner program in GNOME. It worked  but would not release the
scanner, after exiting the program. If the scanner program was relaunched.
My scanner light would go back off.

In KDE, it couldn't find the scanner. Sort of like the camera program.
