An 8-9 is suerly a great find! Congratulations! A couple of weeks ago, I braved a blizzard in upstate NY to hit an auction that had a Victor 130 that just happened to be a Japanese Lacquer model. After all the years I have collected machines, I finally got to see one of these beauties. Attic fresh from an 18-room mansion that was about to be demolished, I rescued this baby for a small price, only being bid against by an antique dealer who had no idea why he was bidding on (judging by the price I got it for...) I had to shell out an extra $100 for the set of custom albums that were all there and in very nice shape (full of mostly Polish 78s...interesting!)
My question to you all...I am aware of one or two others like this one. Bob Baumbach has one and I think I remember seeing one at Jasper's place in Illinois. Are there any others held in private collections? Bob Baumbach tells me approx 100 of these were made in 1922-1923. Any help is greatly appreciated, I am just trying to get an idea of exactly how "rare" this really is. I've been fortunate around here lately. Within the last year, I have found a mint Victor XXV (the early one without the horn shelf) a nice original 10-50 and now the 130 (which prompted me to have an alarm system installed in my house!) To all: Have a fantastic holiday and a prosperous new year! Also, if anybody would like to see pics, let me know off list, or perhaps Loran can host a couple of them. I was lucky and was at the right spot as it was coming out of a van. It belonged to a little old lady who told me it had always been in her house, and had originally belonged to her. mother. It is in wonderful condition and the nickel petal horn is nearly flawless. Has anyone ever polished one of these, what did you use? The cabinet is excellent as is the decal. It unfortunately is missing the spring barrel to the motor. I did a google search and could not find any information on this model of Columbia. I realize a lot of Columbia machines used the same or very similar motors. Does anyone know where I might find a picture of the motor this machine uses. Are there other models that used the same motor? Thanks and Happy Holidays to all Charles Haynes
