Just got a call from a friend who is putting a Brunswick 105 Table Model with the Ultona Tone arm and conversions for Pathe and Edison Records up for sale. He is missing the Pathe ball needle. It looks to be in very good original condition and he wanted to get a idea of what to sell it for. Does anyone have a ball park figure on this machine?
Thanks for you help, Bruce From [email protected] Tue Mar 8 15:26:27 2005 From: [email protected] (Robert Wright) Date: Sun Dec 24 13:10:13 2006 Subject: [Phono-L] Styli... References: <[email protected]> Message-ID: <[email protected]> Hi, Douglas. You didn't mention that your stylus is indeed diamond, or how old it is and how much use it's gotten. From what I understand, many older (pre-1980's, for instance) "diamond" styli were not actually made of real diamonds, but that the word "Diamond" was interchangable with "permanent", more like a classification of intended use than an indication of the actual material used. I would think that these days, they'd have to be real diamonds. The subject at hand has been about "modern" styli, which I would classify as anything less than say, 10 yrs old, for instance. I am interested in what's up with the reduced volume of the new point on the Edison reproducer! Who did the replacement for you? What were they using as a model to shape the new tip? It sounds to me like maybe the stylus-to-groove contact is not exactly as Edison intended it to be, perhaps, unless they somehow messed up the other parts of the reproducer (misaligned diaphragm, for example)... At least decent condition DD reproducer assemblies seem to be readily available on eBay, and are easily replaced. Some I've seen even claim to be NOS, in fact. Keep us posted!
