About ten years ago I helped a lady get her father's old Columbia AT in running
order by acquiring a suitable reproducer for it, and since she hated the
Polyphone type horn that her father always used with it, I agreed to find her a
black and brass horn for it. After I acquired the horn for her, I asked her
what she was going to do with the Polyphone horn and when she said "throw it
out with the trash", I of course saved it from that horrible fate. The only
problem is that her day had painted it black with gold paint on the inside of
the horn. I have often wondered if I should chance stripping off the paint and
repainting it the correct colors. Does anyone know what the correct colors for
a Polyphone type horn would be?

Black with a gold rim. *Sometimes* I've seen them with a gold stripe at the
join between the flare and the body. See my webpage:

(http://members.aol.com/edisonphonograph/polyphones.htm) . (One has a body
stripe, the other doesn't, but I think the
latter one was repainted. Both are original Polyphone horns as noted by the
rings
mounted to the edge of the bell.) I have the same type of funnel horn on my
Bijou (but without the ring on the edge of the bell). That one is pristine
original and has no body stripe, but the rim is gold:
