I tried posting this once before but I don't think it made it to the list: I picked up a little (about 10.25 by 13" footprint) electric portable 78 player at a flea market on Saturday. I cleaned it up, oiled the motor and other rotating points, put a plug on it and plugged it in. No hum, and motor went round. I put a steel needle into the Astatic crystal cartridge, (they are always bad, right?) and Bingo. It played and output was very good. The slightly scratchy volume control quieted right down after a spray with contact cleaner. It doesn't even sound distorted. I was amazed. Soooo, before I try to E-bay it, would anyone on the list be interested in it? $30 plus postage- and it is pretty light, even with the minor reinforcing I did to make the motor board more flat and stable.
