I just got the new catalog for the Fall from the University of Illinois Press and see that the PAPERBACK edition of Tim Brooks' fabulous "Lost Sounds" book is due in September. The cover price is $35.00. Amazon is taking orders at only $23.07! I contacted Tim and he informs me that the hardbound edition is nearly sold out! (So we won't see any remainders. Anyone on the list who collects records (as compared with those of you who collect primarily the hardware (phonographs) should have this book! It covers in great detail, and with Tim's wonderful narrative style, many of the earliest African American recording artists. Of special note is George W. Johnson but Bert Williams, Sissle & Blake and even boxer Jack Johnson are covered. But, most of you already know about the book.
