One way to check on those second chance offers is to click on My eBay after you have logged in through the main home page. It should show a second chance offer in the messages waiting section. If the offer was not legitimate then you won't have a message there. I used this to confirm a second chance two weeks ago for a bona fide offer and to detect a fraudulent offer the week before that.
