Your "friend" should have rewarded you with cash or recordings. I think a gratuity of around 15%+/- is respectable depending on circumstances. ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] Sent: Thursday, January 06, 2005 8:28 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [Phono-L] African-American recording artists for Edison I think I told you my story about the Beethoven Edisonic machine I saw in an antique mall when I was in graduate school. There were some accessories with the machine, and a box of very clean Edison disks, in their original sleeves, with it. I looked at several of the records. They were all electrics. The dealer wanted about $500.00 for the package.
Unfortunately, we had no money at the time. We were both trying to work and go to graduate school. My wife told me several times, "No! We have to go! NOW!" Then, she literally pulled me by my arm out of the stall. I told my phono "friend" about the machine. (Yeah, the one who "lost" my record cabinet.) He went to the shop that day and bought the machine and records. He told me later that there was an Eva Taylor was among the records, all of which were late electrics.
