Hello all,
Wanted to get some info from all of you that know more then I do about the
Outside horn Phonographs.
I just bought yesterday at an Antique Shop up in Carlisle Pa.
It's a Victor 5 with a wood horn and a Herzog record cabinet( I know it's a
Herzog because of the
Decal on the inside door).
I paid $1000.00 for them both and she wanted $1800.00. Would you say it was
a
Good price.
There are a few things wrong which are:
1. The wood horn is somewhat weathered , or almost what you call
alligatored,
and wanted to know how to clean it up?
The wood looks more like balsa wood, ( not a heavy or thick wood), it
has
the Victor logo that you can barely see on the horn.
The horn is what I think you call spear tip design.
2. It has a triple spring and can only get about 80 cranks
and you can here and feel the spring slip. Can't get enough speed to
play
the record correctly. So I know I will need to get another set of
springs.
3. The reproducer needs repair.
So basicly, there are 3 things to be done.
I was really interested in how to clean up the horn.
Many thanks,
Keith

WOW, I would call that a spectacular deal! Can't wait to see the pics! There is
a Victor V here locally that I have been drooling over, has a large black and
brass horn, and it is $2200. No cabinet, no nothing.

Thanks John,
My girlfriend kept telling me to "BUY IT, BUT IT NOW", she kept insisting.
She loves the phonographs.
I how have to get the springs redone and the reproducer and she's ready to
play.

The horn is worth more than what you paid. Great find and great price. I
think I'll follow you around and see how you get a price from 1800 to 1000!
Congrats!
