I got the Spring issue of the ARSC Journal on Saturday and this is definitely
an issue that Phono-lers (those of you collecting the records as well as the
phonographs) will want. The bulk of the 182 page issue (only 4 pages of ads!)
consists of Ray Wile's thoroughly researched article on The North American
Phonograph Company. (This is part 1; part two will be in the Fall issue.), A
chapter from Tim Brooks' wonderful book "Lost Sounds" (about early Black
recording
artists). on George W. Johnson (complete with lyrics to his famous songs) and
a previously unpublished annotated George W. Johnson Discography. There are a
bunch of CD and Book reviews of classical, folk and even one rock book and
Tim Brooks' (again) Current bibliography. There's also an ad for Tim's book
offering a 20% discount to ARSC members which makes membership an even bigger
bargain.

And a reminder to Phonolisters who are students: There is now a Student rate
for full time students.

This issue kept me busy for quite a few hours.

Info at www.arsc-audio.org.

BTW, the ARSC Conference for 2005 will be in Austin Texas at the SAME time as
the HUGE Austin Record Show.

Right you are Randy! I was there on Saturday and I picked up some nice
cylinders and disks. The show seemed to be a little better than last year
in both attendance and quality of merchandise.

By the way, rumor had it that this would be the last show because Donley's
Wild West Town (DWWT) is up for sale. The owners of DWWT assured everyone
that this is not true and the show would return next June.
