Another thing to inspect is the motor casting and attachment points.
Make sure no one has lost a screw holding the various parts together.
The tensioner pulley is not rubbing on the main pulley is it? Probably
the best thing to do is as someone else suggested and dismantle, clean
and re-lube the whole motor. Make sure the spring is completely unwound
before you take it apart though. If you loosen something and the shafts
start to move fast, you can burn out a bearing or strip gear teeth in a
heartbeat.

Subject: [Phono-L] Mandrel bearing and other ...

Okay- "thanks" for the tips on the bearing John, Ron, Steve etc...

Now I have a new question:

The motor seems to be siezed, but I can't tell if it's the gears or the
spring/barrel. The spring was wound tight and I was able (with
patience) to
back off the spring catches one turn backwards after another and release
the
tension. So- the spring "does" wind up with the crank just fine- but
the
motor won't turn the gears. I've look at all the obvious things of
course
like the lever/governer stops etc... the governer springs seem to move
okay
and when I push on the gears they seem to move a little. Where is the
most
likely place to look that this motor, gears etc... could be seized up?
What
should I take apart first. lol

I think this was famous line in a movie.... "I've got tools and I'm not
afraid to use them".
lol

thx
