So some poor fool paid $3500 for it.  Looks like making fake Edison or
Victor dials for $300 clocks is worth the effort.

Yes Ray, I saw that. I had sent him several questions about the "provenance" of 
the clock, was the dial painted, etc.
Needless to say, he never replied to me. That and coupled with the fact that he 
hid the bidder's IDs tells me he was aware of the clock's dubious authenticity.
I remember a non-collector friend asking me why I spent so much on books 
pertaining to the areas I collected. I said to him, "If you think knowledge is 
expensive, try ignorance when you find that the item you bought is junk."

If you didn't hit the nail right on the head!  That clock is one of the 
worst cases I've ever seen. I hope the buyer has some recourse when buyer's 
remorse sets in.
