Last weekend my wife found a Feb 1947 issue of The Etude. On the front cover
is a picture of Edison with Sousa and Cooke. An inside article has a neat
little story that I thought some of you may appreciate.

His (Edison's) lack of convention and his language (always utterly frank, to
put it mildly) endeared him to all who knew him.
Once, at a social gathering where he was more or less isolated by his extreme
difficulty in hearing, he was obviously bored and when approached by a young
lady who said, "Mr Edison, is there anything I can get for you?" he smiled and
said, "Yes, I wish you would bring me a nice, affecitonate dog."

A man after my own heart.

Subject: [Phono-L] re Horn Decals eg. Opera on eBay
Message-ID: <[email protected]>

Hi Folks,

I have a question regarding horn decals as per the Opera on eBay. Should all
Music Master type horns have a decal on the horn? The horn on the Opera
doesn't, yet it looks to be the original finish otherwise.

I know for instance that Speartip horns that I see from the USA, and many from
parts of Europe seem to have a Decal yet almost all original finish horn here
in Australia don't seem to have one. (including tin HMV).

Here is the link to the OPERA

Can anyone tell me the casting number on the cast iron horn throat from a
spring wound VV-XVII. I have a customer missing just the cast iron portion and
am trying to help them locate one in order to complete their machine.
Thank you,
George

Subject: [Phono-L] DD motor mounting question
Message-ID: <002701c688ae$cb5d8a70$14d42...@busdm801ron>

Learned friends,

Did (should?) the metal plate that holds a DD motor, which is usually
bolted to three cabinet mounted brackets, have rubber padding between
the motorboard bracket face and its mating face on the cabinet bracket?
