Sometimes you can use an emery board to smooth the surface of the wheel a bit. I have also had luck removing the wheel, plunking it in hot soapy water and scrubbing the edges using a green 3M pad. Let dry thoroughly and give it a shot. If none of these works, Magnavox changer are plentiful out there on the bay and usually their wheels seem to stay rather soft from the ones I've had over the years.
