Loran,

Thanks for the tip about the Apache server...That is a fantastic
preventative measure...fantastic....

Oh, I forgot to tell the outcome of the situation where my auction pictures
were linked to and thereby stolen..... Once I noticed the problem, I
reported it to eBay and quickly made a second copy of my pictures and
renamed them. Then, of course, I edited the ad to reference the new
pictures. After that, I found a mug shot at the LAPD website of a certain
King of Pop. I made several copies of it and named each with the original
referenced names so that rather than my product appearing in a bogus
listing, many, many mug shots of the King of Pop were displayed instead.
eBay removed the ad about 3 days later...They ARE faster nowadays.....

Subject: Re: [Phono-L] Preventing linking to your site

One of the funniest ways I saw someone "get even" with someone who was
linking to his site was substituting the photo on his site that was being
used. The new "photo" the person put up was a message that said something
like "this auction is a fraud and you should not bid." Needless to say, the
seller stopped linking to the site pretty quickly...

If your website is on an Apache web server, you can prevent people
from "hotlinking" the photos directly from your site. See http://
altlab.com/htaccess_tutorial.html. Following the watermark theme,
once you get your auction started, replace the photos with
watermarked pics which include the auction number (and maybe your ID,
if room).
