Here is something I saw interesting I wanted to share with the list. See
attached ebay link below. A recent Antiques Road Show episode showed a
collection of old early 20th century carnival canes made in Japan. I was
interested because I have a carnival cane I picked up several years ago which
the porecelain head of a dog resembled Nipper. The cane I have looks exactly
like the one that just sold on ebay below. Please look at the link because I am
curious whether or not the Japanese intended to make a carnival stick to
resemeble Nipper ans whether anyone on the list thinks this is a Nipper item.
When these canes were made in the 1920s or 30s Nipper was already well known
throughout the world and the Japanese were creating unauthorized canes that
resembled Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Little Orpah Annie, etc. So maybe the same
happened here with Nipper. I would be interested to hear what the list thinks
about this especially those who are Nipper enthusiasts.
