As long as we're telling stories... the military contract movers are notorious for breaking stuff. I had a friend move from LA to MD and they actually folded his innerspring mattress in half. The military, being well, the military, told him he needed three estimates for repair before he could be reimbursed. After being hung up on by several mattress stores (as the person on the other end was laughing), he finally got one to provide a letter stating that folded innerspring mattresses couldn't be repaired. He eventually got some money for it.
I got extremely lucky when we moved from MD to OR. Our contract mover turned out to be a father & sons team, and they were quite impressed with the phonos, etc. We only lost one record in that move. Loran
