As long as we're telling stories... the military contract movers are  
notorious for breaking stuff. I had a friend move from LA to MD and  
they actually folded his innerspring mattress in half. The military,  
being well, the military, told him he needed three estimates for  
repair before he could be reimbursed. After being hung up on by  
several mattress stores (as the person on the other end was  
laughing), he finally got one to provide a letter stating that folded  
innerspring mattresses couldn't be repaired. He eventually got some  
money for it.

I got extremely lucky when we moved from MD to OR. Our contract mover  
turned out to be a father & sons team, and they were quite impressed  
with the phonos, etc. We only lost one record in that move.
